چکیده

This paper evaluates different data-processing methods to determine the gravity rate of change, using repeated absolute gravimeter (AG) measurements and continuous monitoring by a superconducting gravimeter (SG). Based on synthetic data representative of signals observed by SGs at various station locations, we demonstrate that the addition of SG information mitigates the error in the estimation of gravity rates of change caused by the presence of long period, interannual, and annual signals in the AG data. These results are discussed as a function of the sampling rate of the absolute gravity measurements, the duration of the observations, and the uncertainties of the AGs. & 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Superconducting gravimeter calibration by co-located gravity observations – results from GWR C025

After a 12 years’ observation in Vienna (VI), the superconducting gravimeter GWR C025 has been transferred in autumn 2007 to the new Conrad observatory (CO) 60 km SW of Vienna. It is one of few instruments which were operated at different stations. This aspect motivated a re-analysis of all calibration experiments performed so far in VI and CO, focused on the direct impact of drift effects and ...

Effects of horizontal acceleration on the superconducting gravimeter CT #036 at Ishigakijima, Japan

In the gravity sensor of a superconducting gravimeter, a superconducting sphere as a test mass is levitated in a mag‐ netic field. Such a sensor is susceptible to applied horizontal as well as vertical acceleration, because the translational degrees of freedom of the mass are not perfectly limited to the vertical direction. In the case of the superconducting gravimeter CT #036 installed at Ishi...

Using ground-based gravity measurements to monitor changes in terrestrial water storage

Monitoring changes in the Earth’s gravity field for terrestrial water storage change (soil moisture, ground water, snow etc.) is a relatively new and novel concept that has been inspired by the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite mission. GRACE will soon be providing time varying maps of the Earth’s gravity. However, there has been no field based study to demonstrate that ...

Evaluating catchment-scale hydrological modeling by means of terrestrial gravity observations

[1] In a previous study (Hasan et al., 2006) we applied time series analysis and distributed hydrological modeling techniques to investigate the effect of hydrological processes on observed terrestrial gravity residuals. In this study we apply terrestrial gravity observations (measured in one location) to constrain simple hydrological models in a catchment around the gravimeter. A superconducti...

GGP (Global Geodynamics Project): an international network of superconducting gravimeters to study time- variable gravity

The Global Geodynamics Project (GGP) is an international network of superconducting gravimeters (SG) first established in 1997 and further extended in 2003. It was decided during the last IUGG assembly in 2007 to move to a permanent network hosted by IAG and become part of GGOS. Several new locations are being planned to extend the network to about 30 stations in 2008/2009. One of the present t...
